Former Irish rugby star Hugo MacNeill is running for the Seanad.

There is a vacancy in the Upper House following the Dublin Bay South bye-election win by Ivana Bacik - she has become a TD - and Mr MacNeill has thrown his hat in the ring to take Ms Bacik’s place in the Seanad.

If he is successful in winning a seat on the Trinity University panel, Mr MacNeill will join his wife, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, in Leinster House.
