The government has set a foodgrain production target of 373.93 million tonnes (MT) for 2026-27, 2.63 MT below the 2025-26 estimate. For the upcoming Rabi season, the government has set a foodgrain production target of 177.72 MT, with wheat accounting for the largest share, followed by pulses, coarse cereals and oilseeds.
"Against a target of 362.60 MT for 2025-26, production reached 376.56 MT in 2025-26. In view of El Niño, the target for 2026-27 has been set at 373.93 MT," Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while addressing the media after the National Agriculture Conference-Rabi Campaign 2026 in New Delhi on Tuesday.
