I agree with Laura Snapes that the very last thing we need is MPs’ questionable tastes entering the murky waters of the UK’s Eurovision song choice (What do you think of the MPs’ inquiry into UK Eurovision song contest failure? I give it nul points, 21 September).
However, one thing I can’t believe hasn’t happened is for the UK to draw upon our ridiculously rich folk tradition. Loads of other countries do it – Ukraine won it a few years back with a song that infused Ukrainian folk with pop – so why can’t we?
And who’s to say it even need be sung in English? A Welsh, Cornish or Scots entry would freshen things up, and no one could accuse us of a Europop facsimile.

• Zoe Williams’ article on the proposed inquiry into “why are our Eurovision entries so bad?” was very amusing (Britain loves its underdogs. We should be celebrating our Eurovision flops, not investigating them, 21 September). It also made me think that the House of Commons select committee could save time and money by asking AI. It would probably take it 10 minutes, and it might even produce a winning song.
