Flames broke through the roof of the historic Hendrefoilan House as a fire ripped through the Victorian mansion.
Emergency services were called to the scene late on Sunday night and fought the flames until the early hours of the following morning. Pictures show the scale of the fire as residents nearby grew concerned for those involved.
The building is near the off-campus Swansea University Hendrefoilan Student Village and was purchased by a new owner in 2020, converting the property into a residency. A spokesperson for South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said crews are dealing with "a large house fire" with South Wales Police in attendance saying there are "no immediate concerns" and the incident was being dealt with.

Neighbours raised concerns around the scale of the fire as flames broke through the properties roof. One nearby resident who wished to remain unnamed commented: "I only noticed it when we saw all the flashing lights past the house, we saw four fire engines, police and other units all head up into the lane".
Sue Gleeson lives along Hendrefoilan Avenue. She was alerted to the blaze by a neighbour living opposite who was concerned it was her house which was affected.
She said: “I heard a knock on the door and it was my neighbour checking we were ok. I went into the lounge and looked out and I could see huge flames going up. I opened the curtains and I could see flames licking up from the roof. It was spectacular in an awful way
Fellow Hendrefoilan Avenue resident Patricia Kirby said she and her husband were awoken by the fire.
“The flames were sky high,” she said. “The house looks like it is still standing, but someone said they had to break the roof to extinguish the fire. A very nice family live there with two children and a dog. The building has been there for years and it is listed. It is a shame to see. The owner has done a lot of work there.
Other neighbours expressed concerns following whether nearby properties should be evacuated in case the fire had spread into surrounding woodland. Smoke can still be seen from the house this morning with emergency service vehicles still present.
