There is significant interest from a number of Football League clubs in Notts County forward Ruben Rodrigues, with the 26-year-old’s current deal at Meadow Lane set to run out this month.
The Magpies have offered the Portuguese player renewed terms, but a report from Football Insider claimed as many as five other clubs are interested in securing his services for next season.
Rodrigues had another brilliant season in the National League last term, helping County achieve promotion with 19 goals and 15 assists in 45 appearances including the play-offs. The dynamic forward has netted 51 times in total for Notts over three seasons and has been a key player throughout his time at the club, so it comes as no surprise to see interest in him mounting.
The named clubs said to be interested include Cardiff City of the Championship and four League One teams in the form of Derby County, Portsmouth, Barnsley, and Oxford United.
With the supposed level of outside interest in the player, it will be difficult for County to retain his services. That being said, there was also interest in Rodrigues last summer, yet the club managed to hold on to him, so there is something to be said about the commitment shown so far.
The Rams’ interest has an extra layer to it with Notts said to be interested in taking one of their players, veteran striker David McGoldrick who started his professional career at Meadow Lane, so there could be a player going either way from each of the clubs if Derby’s interest in Rodrigues is genuine.
Losing a player of Rodrigues’ quality would be an obvious blow for the club but is an eventuality they have likely prepared for, with the recruitment drive underway at the club as Luke Williams prepares a squad ready for the return back to the Football League.
