Some 20 fully speedboats caught on fire at Chalong Pier in Phuket on Wednesday morning.
The fire started on a speedboat at the pier in Muang district at 4am and strong winds spread the fire to adjacent boats.
Witnesses said they heard an explosion when the fire started. Rescue workers rushed to separate other speedboats to limit the damage. No casualties were reported.
Phuket's governor said the speedboats had been refuelled ready to serve tourists in the morning. He ordered officials concerned to contain oil spills in the sea.
The governor also told local police to speed up investigations into the cause of the fire.
