Final Fantasy 7 Remake series director Naoki Hamaguchi has explained why Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth never got a DLC expansion like its predecessor, but says it's a possibility for the upcoming third game.
Speaking to ntower, Hamaguchi reveals that DLC for Rebirth was actually considered, explaining: "When it came to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we seriously considered the possibility of developing a story DLC right up until immediately before the project officially moved into the planning phase."
Shockingly, the decision not to move ahead with it wasn't anything to do with how overwhelmingly massive Rebirth already is, with Hamaguchi adding: "Within the context of a long-term trilogy, we concluded that running development of the second installment's DLC in parallel with the third installment would inevitably affect the third game's schedule and overall quality.
"At that point, I believed my primary role was not to add DLC, but to deliver the third entry to fans as quickly as possible at a level of polish they would find satisfying." He concludes: "For that reason, we decided to forgo story DLC for Rebirth."
However, despite skipping over it for the second entry, Hamaguchi hasn't ruled out the possibility for the third and final game in the series – which some obviously fake leaks will tell you is Final Fantasy 7 Return. Hamaguchi explains, "As for DLC beyond the third installment, I believe that will ultimately depend on how strongly fans continue to support Final Fantasy 7 as both a title and a franchise. If there is significant demand, we'd certainly be open to exploring those possibilities proactively."
Granted, Final Fantasy 7 Remake's DLC also had two jobs. Not only was it a DLC expansion to the main story, but a reason for people to pick up the PS5 edition of the game which had only launched a year prior on PS4, especially considering it was an exclusive to the current-gen versions of the game. The Super Mario Bros. Wonder: Meetup in Bellabel Park of Final Fantasy 7, if you will.
