FIFA considering bonkers World Cup change as Gianni Infantino proposes 100 minute games

FIFA are considering changing football's traditional 90 minutes of action to 100 at this winter's World Cup.

The game's showpiece tournament kicks off in Qatar this November and Scotland are still in the running to make it.

Wins over Ukraine and Wales in June play-off matches will guarantee Steve Clarke 's side claim safe passage, with England, Iran and USA waiting thereafter.

But a major change could be in place if FIFA have their way.

A report from Corriere dello Sport states football's hierarchy wants to increase the amount of effective playing time in matches ahead of the games in Qatar.

Before they can proceed with it, they’ll have to earn the approval of IFAB, who govern the laws of football.

reports state up to 10 additional minutes could be added to matches – and the proposal came directly from FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Effective playing time has become a highly-debated issue in recent years and studies of late have shown the ball is only in active play for 60.2 per cent of the average Champions League match.
