Fern Britton warns fans to be careful as she suffers nasty and painful injury at home

TV presenter Fern Britton has shared some sage advice with fans after suffering a nasty accident with a kitchen knife.

The former This Morning presenter shared a snap of her bandaged left hand as she revealed she sliced into her hand by "a centimetre" after using a steak knife to cut string from a bunch of flowers.

Fern shared her gory injury on Twitter as she teased fans about the gash putting them off their "supper" with the snap of her bandaged hand.

Writing in a tweet to her 145k followers, TV presenter and author Fern wrote: "WARNING: Just stabbed my thumb. Using a steak knife instead of scissors to cut string around a bunch of flowers. Went in about a centimetre.

"Pulled it out and the inside looks like steak.. sorry are you having supper? Applied pressure, and held up.. not too bad now."

Fans shared their well wishes for the former ITV presenter, as one replied: "Could have been worse, glad your OK XX".

Another added: "ouchy ouchy Fern, you must keep an eye on that.."

"Oh no! So easily done. I managed to stab myself with a screwdriver yesterday! Hope you recover soon and never do it again!!!," said a third.

A fourth wrote: "Ouch! I hope the flowers were worth it! Here’s to quick healing…….maybe purchasing some safety scissors and hiding the steak knives!"

Earlier this month Fern revealed she'd been catching up with former This Morning colleague Eamonn Holmes, just after the news broke of presenter Phillip Schofield's affair with a younger colleague and rumours of toxicity at ITV. Fern fronted This Morning alongside Phillip for seven years from 2002 until 2009.

Whilst she hasn't commented on the scandal, Fern tweeted: "Unexpected calls from old mates are so lovely. Just had the loveliest catch-up with @EamonnHolmes.

"I think we have known each other since the 80s when we were babies. Shooting the breeze."

The tweet came as Eamonn Holmes launched a series of scatching comments and remarks towards Phillip Schofield, who stepped down from presenting This Morning last month after 20 years.

In a interview with the BBC, Phillip apologised for concealing his affair as he said: "I would say to everyone, to my family, my friends, my work colleagues, the public, to ITV, my management company, to everyone that I lied to, that I am desperately sorry."
