Fermanagh community market organiser delighted with response from public ahead of third event

The organiser of a new monthly market in Enniskillen has said she has been delighted with the response to the event so far.

The Relove Community Market first set up shop in the Enniskillen Ulster Farmers Market in June and has become increasingly popular for those buying and selling second hand items. The Co Fermanagh woman behind the event says it’s all about reducing waste and helping people during the cost of living crisis.

Linda Johnston says she has been spurred on by the feedback from the local community so far ahead of the latest market on Saturday 6 August.

“I set it up a few months ago now, a lot of people don’t necessarily want to give away their stuff so the only other thing was trying to sell online and people didn’t want to do that.

“I thought I would give it a go and see what happens and what the response is like, luckily it has been really good so far.

“We are on to our third one now on Saturday having started in June, the feedback has been fantastic so far and hopefully that word of mouth will spread even further.

“Lots of people have been saying it’s what they really wanted to see in the area. A lot of people hanker back to the markets in Enniskillen every Thursday.

“A lot of it just that connection with other people, you’re seeing people you maybe haven’t seen for years and it’s just a lovely place for people to come together.

“For the people who have the stalls it’s a great opportunity for them to release things that they don’t want or need and for somebody else to get a good bargain.

Linda says having her own decluttering business made her realise the importance of not throwing things away, and added there are plans to introduce live music to the events in the months ahead.

“I’m really big on not throwing things away, I have a decluttering business and I just hate seeing things thrown out. Whether that is repurposing it or giving it to someone else.

“It’s just a bit of fun to be honest, people are just coming and having a good time. It’s been busy as well, our stalls fill up really quickly.

“The beauty is that its an indoor market so we don;t have to worry about the weather so much. We are also hoping to have live music in at our markets over the next few months so that should give people another reason to come.”
