Federal safety regulators have told hunters to stop using a safety rope sold to prevent falls from tree stands, saying the rope can break during the fall it is meant to arrest. One already has.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the warning Thursday for VONLX hunting safety ropes, covering 555 units. The agency says "the rope can snap if a consumer falls from a hunting stand" while attached to it, posing a risk of serious injury or death. CPSC cites one report of a consumer who fell to the ground after the rope snapped and suffered nasal and facial fractures.
