Donald Trump has been accused of fearmongering by scientists for urging pregnant women to avoid using paracetamol, suggesting without any proof that the drug is linked to autism.

The US president said there had been a “meteoric rise” in cases of autism and suggested that Tylenol - which is called paracetamol in the UK - is a potential cause.
