Tottenham are once again going through a tricky patch after taking just one point from matches with Brighton and Brentford this week. It has allowed Arsenal to leapfrog them in the race for fourth with a place in next season's Champions League now looking like a challenge.
But with the likes of Harry Kane, Son Heung-Min and Dejan Kulusevski in their ranks, anything is possible and someone like Antonio Conte will not want to settle for the Europa League. Next up for Spurs is the visit of mid-table Leicester, a game that Spurs will be expected to win if they are to have any hope of coming fourth.
Director of football Fabio Paratici will no doubt already have begun planning for the summer transfer window, however. While Spurs may not be far from a return to Europe, another trophyless season shows that there is still work to be done with the squad. Here, football.london takes a look at two free agents he could sign to take them closer to that goal and save a fortune.

Christian Eriksen
How Tottenham can replace Eriksen has been a question ever since Eriksen left for Inter Milan. It now appears the answer to that question may well be to sign Christian Eriksen. Brentford have offered the Denmark international the chance to play again following his cardiac arrest and his performances have been impressive.
His set-piece delivery alone caused Tottenham all sorts of problems last week and calls are growing increasingly loud for the club to offer him a route back to north London. Brentford will no doubt be eager to keep hold of the attacking midfielder but he could be a cheap solution to a lack of midfield creativity that has blighted Spurs' season.
Paulo Dybala
You could say Tottenham have unfinished business with the Argentinian. The January transfer window of 2019 saw the Juventus forward move tantalisingly close to a transfer to north London, only for the deal to fall through late on.
While there is no doubting that Dejan Kulusevski has filled a vital role in Conte's front three, increasing competition for those places would not do any harm at all. Liverpool's greatest strength this season has been their ability to completely rotate their front three when necessary and it is a blueprint Tottenham would be wise to follow going forward. With Dybala set to become available on a free deal, it is no surprise Paratici is reportedly showing an interest.
