Expert shares 49p hack to remove Christmas tree sap stains from carpet

Getting a real Christmas tree is a family tradition for many people however one of their most inconvenient downfalls is the risk of tree sap staining your rugs and flooring. To prevent that from happening to you Fiona Jenkins, the resident gardening expert at MyJobQuote.co.uk has revealed the tasty ingredient that can quickly remove the sticky stains.

According to the specialist, a dollop of mayonnaise works wonders on Christmas tree saps stains. If you don't have any at home, you can buy it for as little as 49p from Asda.

Simply spread the mayonnaise onto the stained area using a cloth or rubber gloves and then leave it to sit for five to ten minutes. Finally, wipe away the softened sap with a clean cloth soaked in warm water and it should come straight off.

If you're not a fan of the condiment, Fiona has shared the other household items that can remove encrusted tree sap that cost less than one pound.

1. 55p hand sanitiser could be the answer

It’s the time of year when coughs and colds are doing the rounds, and everyone has hand sanitiser at the ready! If you don’t you can buy it for just 55p, it will definitely come in useful.

Take a paper kitchen towel and blot hand sanitiser onto the stain and the alcohol in the sanitizer should dissolve the Christmas tree sap.

2. Try this ice cube and vinegar hack for 29p

All you need for this hack is ice cubes and white vinegar, if you don’t already have the vinegar in your cupboard you can get your hands on some for as little as 29p.

First, use ice cubes to harden the sticky sap, this may take a few ice cubes so be sure to freeze a full tray! Then pick off the hardened sap in pieces or scrape it off with a blunt knife. Next, take a cloth dipped in white vinegar and rub away any marks left behind from the sap.

3. Use 37p washing up liquid

Another household item that can remove Christmas tree sap is washing up liquid, if you’re running low or would rather use cheaper dish soap to do this you can get it for 37p.

This tip is super easy. You only need to wet a dishcloth with the washing-up liquid and dab it onto the stained area until it disappears then rinse with warm water.
