Dog owners love their pooches, but they might not be as keen on the various scents they carry and leave behind at home.
Through their daily frolics in outdoor parks, to rolling around in muddy puddles, dogs can come home covered in dirt, or just boast that familiar dog stench. Luckily, there are simple ways you can keep your home stink free and sanitary no matter how smelly your furry friend may get.
Homecare expert and author Lynsey Crombie, best known as Lynsey Queen of Clean, has shared her top tips for when common air fresheners just won't cut it. Lynsey took questions from fans while speaking on all things scrubbing and dusting, at a cleaning festival, aptly titled "The House of Hacks".
While sharing her advice with other houseproud owners, the conversation quickly steered to stinky pets. Lynsey revealed that by simply using baking soda and water, you can banish that distinctive doggy whiff from your furnishings.
A pet owner in attendance at the Wilko event found themselves dealing with the less than pleasant odour of 'wet dog', a scent we can all agree won't be released as a candle any time soon. They had a springer spaniel and a Jack Russell, and confirmed they were both rather fond of jumping up on the sofa, the Mirror reports.
"They have lots of accidents. Wee, poo, sick, you know what dogs are like! Products like this one are really good."
Lynsey advised: "You need to have a good fabric refresher product, and you can make your own as well. By making your own product, you've got bicarbonate of soda, water, and your favourite essential oils. Spray on the sofa and spray on the pets' beds.
The cleaning expert also advised getting the windows open to let the fresh air in, and to make sure you don't neglect to brush your furry best friend on a regular basis.
Lynsey continued: "I think a lot of the time we forget to keep our dogs groomed. Brush the hair out, take the hair away, sometimes the smell is attached to the hair, and this will really, really help."
