Former Tennessee Titans and current Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Cameron Batson was arrested early Saturday morning following an alleged altercation and chase with police after being pulled over.
According to a release from the Atlanta Police Department, via ESPN.com, Batson was pulled over around 2 a.m. Saturday morning “after speeding and failing to maintain his lane on an interstate.”
During the stop, Batson “was deemed intoxicated by an officer before the situation turned physical after the wide receiver allegedly resisted arrest.”
Per police, in the midst of the alleged altercation with the police officer, the officer fired his gun but didn’t hit anyone. Batson then retreated to his truck and drove away before eventually crashing and fleeing on foot.
He was later found by police while hiding and was arrested. Details of the exact charges against the NFL receiver have not been announced.
The Falcons released this statement in the wake of the news:
“We have been made aware of an overnight incident involving Cameron Batson and are currently gathering information from law enforcement agencies,” the team said. “We take this matter seriously and have no further comment at this time.”
Batson spent four seasons with the Titans from 2018-2021, spending time on both the practice squad and the 53-man roster. He is currently on the Falcons’ practice squad and has not played in a game this season.
