AUSTIN, Texas — Former Republican legislator Chris Paddie has stopped lobbying as he deals with an official ethics complaint alleging he violated a revolving door law he helped pass.
The Texas Ethics Commission approved an advisory opinion last week stating that a 2019 law bans state legislators from becoming lobbyists within two years of using their own campaign cash to donate to other politicians.
Paddie, who represented parts of East Texas for a decade in the House, co-authored the revolving door bill. In the past two years, he has given House lawmakers more than $50,000 from his campaign funds.
