Ex Emmerdale star Gemma Atkinson caught up in Manchester Airport chaos after returning from family holiday

Gemma Atkinson got caught up in the Manchester Airport chaos as she returned from her first family holiday.

The ex Emmerdale star recently jetted off to Tenerife - which holds a special place in her heart with her fiancé Gorka Márquez and their daughter Mia.

But once they touched back down in Manchester, the star shared how it took them two hours to get through security and told her followers to "expect the chaos"

It comes as airports have struggled to cope with staff shortages as people go on holiday following the removal of Covid restrictions.

In turn it has left the airport in chaos with huge queues, baggage delays, and crowded check-in halls.

The actress took to Instagram to share a sweet clip of Mia playing as they waiting to pick up the luggage.

The toddler appears to be in full conversation with her mum as they sit and wait out their time for their luggage as they arrived back at the city's airport on Tuesday night.

Gemma captioned the video: "How we killed time waiting for luggage last night at Manchester airport.

"The staff at the airport were brilliant with us, however they are extremely understaffed which made everything so much slower. We arrived 4hrs before our flight and it took around 2hrs to get through security.

"Our flight was delayed an hour as while we boarding, some ppl on our flight were still waiting to get through security. Coming home we landed at 6.10 and it was 7.45 before the first baggage arrived. Again, the staff who were there were brilliant and you could see how stressful it was for them also."

Gemma added: "I hope the situation improves for everyone’s sake and my advice to anyone traveling is to give yourself plenty of time, expect the chaos but breathe through it, don’t take it out on the staff who are trying and try not to let it ruin the start of your holiday. Easier said then done I know when you’re knackered, but hopefully things will improve."

Fans were soon commenting on the post, thanking Gemma for the 'good advice' while others took on board her comments about the staff.

@markwillshirephotography commented: "This is so true! There are so many understaffed places still and it’s rubbish seeing the staff take the brunt of people's frustrations! It’s not fair and it’s not their fault!"

@thenewbornemporium wrote: “Thanks for the update. We fly on Easter Sunday and I’m dreading the airport but just hope some shops are still open so we can kill some time and spend a fortune waiting.”

While @louisemell warned her friend: “Another Manchester airport understaffing issue! Good luck tomorrow.”
