Ex-Arsenal and Liverpool goalkeeper Alex Manninger dies after car hit by train

  • The news was confirmed by the Austrian Football Association and his former club, FC Red Bull Salzburg, with reports in Austria stating that his car was struck by a train.
  • Manninger made 64 appearances for Arsenal between 1997 and 2002, often serving as back-up to David Seaman.
  • He was part of the Arsenal team that secured the Premier League and FA Cup double in 1998, and started Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford that season.
  • He later had a one-year spell at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp between 2016 and 2017.
