Liverpool added four players to their ranks over the course of the summer transfer window as new sporting director Julian Ward, who succeeded Michael Edwards, significantly lowered the average age of the Reds' squad with an injection of youth.
Following Edwards' departure, Ward acted swiftly to fight off competition from Europe's top sides to sign Benfica talisman Darwin Nunez for an initial £64m, which could later rise to a club-record £85m. The deal to sign the Uruguayan signalled a significant change in approach from Klopp's attack as he waved goodbye to the long-serving Sadio Mane - which simultaneously broke up Liverpool's famed attacking trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and the Senegal international.
Prior to Nunez's arrival, 20-year-old Fulham prodigy Fabio Carvalho was added to the Reds' ranks just days after the end of the Premier League season. Calvin Ramsay also completed a move to Anfield from Aberdeen as he replaced Neco Williams as Trent Alexander-Arnold's understudy.

However, there would still be time for one more addition to the ranks as Jordan Henderson's injury during Wednesday night's victory over Newcastle United saw the club act swiftly to add Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo to their ranks just hours before the deadline, with the Brazilian signing on a season-long loan.
