Latina actress Eva Longoria has been a prominent and outspoken advocate for Democrats and a fervent critic of Donald Trump, especially during the presidential campaign. Her vocal opposition led to widespread speculation that she and her family would leave the United States following Trump's presidential victory.
However, during a conversation with Ana Navarro, a close friend of hers, fellow Latina, and panelist of 'The View,' Longoria clarified that her relocation was not politically motivated but rather due to work commitments that required her to live in Europe, specifically in Spain.
"I'm a proud American. I've always been a proud American—a proud Texan. I didn't want it to be taken that I left because of Trump—absolutely not... I've been living there for years," Eva explained in the latest episode of the 'Behind The Table' podcast.
Her move to Spain is tied to her role with CNN's program 'Searching for Spain,' a continuation of her 2023 project 'Searching for Mexico.' The latter took her to Mexico, where she also met her husband, TV executive Pepe Bastón.
The misconception about Eva's politically driven departure stemmed partly from her strong rhetoric against Trump. She referred to him as a "convicted criminal" during rallies in support of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
"People just grabbed some clickbait stuff to be divisive which makes me so sad that this, you know, everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can't be that way right now," Eva said, addressing fake news about her alleged flight from the U.S. due to Trump. She emphasized that her "fight continues" for the good of the country.
Eva Longoria's Disappointment
Eva also expressed her disappointment over Trump's victory, noting this wasn't her first time opposing the Republican candidate. She recalled also feeling devastated after his 2016 win.
"It was like, 'Does my vote really matter? Am I really making a difference?' I was so untethered to the core of what I believe because I truly believed in my soul that the best person wins. And then that happened, and I was like, 'Oh, wait. The best person doesn't win.'" she said, referencing her support for Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris in past elections.
During her conversation with Navarro, Eva also highlighted that her decision to live abroad wasn't new. For years, she and her husband, along with their son Santiago, have split their time between Mexico and Spain.
With Eva Longoria setting the record straight, the question remains whether other celebrities—like 'Game of Thrones' actress Sophie Turner, singer Cher, or Disney star Raven-Symoné—will follow through on their claims to leave the U.S. after Trump's victory.
