ESPN’s College GameDay will add “Stanford Steve” Coughlin, a mainstay of Scott Van Pelt’s late night SportsCenter program and former host of the betting podcast Stanford Steve and the Bear, that he recorded weekly with former ESPN producer Chris Fallica.
Coughlin will contribute as a betting analyst, giving out his best picks for Saturdays this fall.
Fallica, who increasingly became a face of College GameDay over the years thanks to his betting board on the program, left at the end of last college football season for Fox, where he now has a bigger role in content as an on-air betting personality.
With Fallica gone, College GameDay needed to replace the gambling prowess on the program, as sports betting is becoming a more significant part of ESPN’s fabric, as well as the fabric of college football as a whole.
Enter Coughlin, who is already a popular personality thanks to his “Bad Beats” segment with SVP on SportsCenter, and this marriage with College GameDay feels like a natural fit.
“Thinking back, getting up early and watching College GameDay during my playing days at Stanford was part of the routine,” Coughlin said, per the release from ESPN. “I’m jacked up to be a part of this crew. Charlotte, let’s bring it Week 1!”
Coughlin will make his debut when College GameDay makes its road debut on Saturday, Sept. 2.
