Erik ten Hag gives four reasons why Facundo Pellistri will have Manchester United role this season

Erik ten Hag has praised Facundo Pellistri for his substitute performance in Manchester United's 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.

Pellistri, 21, was finally handed his United debut against Charlton in the League Cup quarter-final earlier this month, despite having been at Old Trafford for over two years after signing for the club from Penarol in October 2020 for £9million.

The winger's debut was lauded by Ten Hag after that game and the Dutchman provided him with another chance in the League Cup against Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night when substituting him on for Antony in the 70th minute.

It was another productive appearance for Pellistri, who played a role in Bruno Fernandes' goal in the final minutes, and Ten Hag suggested the Uruguay international could be a 'different' option on the right wing for the remainder of the season.

Ten Hag discussed Pellistri in his post-match press conference and he identified the qualities the player possesses.

"We have seen some physicality, he had some good movements, some good runs in behind, he has speed," Ten Hag said.

"So he has to bring that in our game. I think he is a player who can play really good between the lines because he can be ball-secure, that he has to bring in our game.

"A little bit different, like a left-footed right winger we have with Antony and he is right-footed and his good chance he created was his cross for Wout Weghorst."

Antony has failed to record a single assist this season and Pellistri could be another option on the right wing.

Pellistri is contracted at Old Trafford until the summer of 2025.
