Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has admitted that he is not sure if Christian Eriksen will be available to face former club Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
The Denmark international, who joined United on a free transfer from Brentford during the summer, missed Sunday's goalless draw with Newcastle United through illness. It was the first time he had not featured for the Reds in the Premier League so far this season.
Eriksen, who has arguably been United's standout player so far this term, was sorely missed against the Magpies. United lacked control in midfield, particularly in the first half, and did not get into enough advanced positions to test visiting goalkeeper Nick Pope.

However, Ten Hag, speaking after the clash with Newcastle, confirmed that it was too early to give a definitive answer on Eriksen's chances of being available for the clash with Spurs.
"We miss him when he's not available," Ten Hag told Viaplay. "But we have a squad and another 11 players on the pitch. So then we have to construct another team and we can bring players from the bench who are all good.
"I can't tell [if he will face Spurs]. I know you're [Viaplay] from Denmark, and want to know, and I want to express he's played fantastic, in this moment, for us. In our team, he really contributes to what we are at this moment.
"I don't know if he will be available for Wednesday but I hope, of course."
Ahead of kick-off, Ten Hag confirmed that Eriksen was battling illness, though he did not reveal the specifics of what the midfielder was suffering from. He also confirmed that Marcus Rashford was "under the weather", meaning the England international was forced to start the game from the bench.
The Dutchman told MUTV pre-match: "He's [Eriksen] ill, so we have some illness. Marcus Rashford also is under the weather also not feeling quite well but has enough energy to play a couple of minutes today in the game."
