Data centres will likely be the sticking point in testy negotiations between Canberra and the states on cutting environmental red tape.

Handing over all responsibility for environmental approval of projects to states and territories was the subject of a meeting between state ministers and their federal counterpart Murray Watt in Brisbane on Friday.
