Ensure women coaches accompany athletes on foreign tours, Compliance Officer to be appointed in camps: SAI to NSFs after harassment complaints

NEW DELHI: In view of the certain recent harassment complaints filed by the country's female athletes against their respective coaches, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) on Wednesday issued guidelines to the national sports federations (NSFs) to ensure the safety of women sportspersons during international exposure trips and at the national level as well.

The SAI, in a statement, informed that it views ethical conduct as a cornerstone in the fair administration of the sporting disciplines and everyone participating in sports, including, but not limited to, athletes, coaches, referees, officials, sports science and medical personnel, volunteers, managers, administrators, committee members, parents or guardians, and Director and Officers of the respective NSF is entitled to participate in an environment that is safe and free of harassment and discrimination. The SAI further expressed that it is imperative for the sport that individuals conduct themselves with the highest level of ethical conduct.
