Enniskillen come up against Clogher Valley in historic rugby final

Rugby fans in the Fermanagh South Tyrone area have been buzzing this week ahead of the All Ireland Junior Cup Final.

Enniskillen Rugby Club will come up against rivals Clogher Valley in a local derby which saw the neighbouring clubs rise through the ranks to meet in the final ahead of clubs from all over Ireland.

The Co Tyrone side are the current holders of the cup, with Enniskillen reaching the showpiece for the first time in their history.

Supporters from the Co Fermanagh town will make their way to the Kingspan stadium in droves on Saturday ahead of the 5.30pm kick off.

Enniskillen clubman and assistant coach Ryan Cathcart says there have been split loyalties in the community ahead of Saturday’s game.

“It’s an interesting one and a lot of the younger guys will know each other a lot better than we would have in our day.

“It’s a perfect storm with it being such a big occasion and the rivalry between the two sides as well.

“You can really see it in the community how the alliances are formed throughout the town, it has split many households and businesses locally - it’s definitely set for a big occasion.”

“It will certainly be a very tense day for many.”

Ryan added it will be a great day for those travelling to Belfast for the match, especially the youth players who will see their clubmates at the former Ravenhill ground.

“The spectators will have a great day and it’s amazing how many different sides of the community come out and get involved.

“I don’t know how many buses are coming down but there is plenty anyway, we have a huge youth section and they are all travelling.

“It’s been a busy week organising everything so it’s looking like it should be a god day for everyone.

“It’s a huge achievement for the club, an All Ireland Final is a first for us. It has that special edge to it and a wee bit surreal after travelling to the likes of Dublin and Tipperary to be playing our next door neighbours in the final.”
