An England fan was kicked out of a bar in Malta after he refused to put his shirt back on - with a bouncer allegedly pulling out a machete.
The Three Lions secured a comfortable 4-0 victory at the Ta' Qali National Stadium on Friday. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Harry Kane and Callum Wilson all struck for Gareth Southgate's side as they moved on to nine points from a possible nine at the start of their Euro 2024 qualification campaign.
The 4,000+ England fans inside the stadium were in full voice as Southgate's side continued their impressive recent form after wins over Italy and Ukraine in March. However, there was one incident on Sunday that sparked confusion after one Three Lions supporter got himself into a spot of bother.
Henry Winter at The Times tweeted that an England fan was in a Malta bar when he was asked to put his shirt back on. However, he refused and it caused chaos. It is claimed a bouncer then came over and pulled out a large machete and chased the supporter out on to the street for not following the pub rules.
No injuries were caused to the fan but he was alleged to have been 'shocked' by the incident. Locals and bar staff were said to have not raised an eyebrow to what happened and carried on as normal.
As for the England team itself, they travelled back from Malta on Saturday and went straight to Manchester ahead of their game against North Macedonia at Old Trafford. The Three Lions can secure their fourth successive victory in Group C with a win over a side ranked 65th in the world.
Speaking ahead of the game, Southgate warned his side that Macedonia will be a tougher opposition, compared to what they faced against Malta. He said: "They should have won the other night against Ukraine really. So we know the quality of some of the individual players.
"They have got some players playing at big European clubs. As a team they function well. They obviously knocked Italy out of the last World Cup and pushed Portugal close in those knockout games. So, they have got pedigree.
"They bring the game to you a bit more than perhaps we had the other night as well. So, it isn’t just a case of rolling on from Friday. It is a step up in intensity and quality and we’ve got to be right on our game to win the match."
England have never won a home game against North Macedonia in their two previous attempts. They drew 0-0 at Old Trafford in November 2006 whilst Wembley was still being built, following a 2-2 draw in their first meeting in 2002. David Beckham and Steven Gerrard both scored for the Three Lions at St Mary's Stadium.
