An infant has tragically died after emergency services rushed to a Midlothian town on Friday afternoon.
A large police presence was spotted in the Strathesk area of Penicuik around 3pm, with paramedics also present at the scene. Officers have since confirmed the tragic and 'sudden' death of child.
A spokesperson for the force said officers received a report of the death at a property in the Midlothian town which is being treated as 'unexplained' pending further enquiries.

The age of gender of the youngster has not been released by police, but there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 3.10pm on Friday, 26 May, 2023, police received a report of the sudden death of an infant at a property in Penicuik.
"The death is being treated as unexplained pending further enquiries, but there is not believed to be any suspicious circumstances."
