Authorities in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, are appealing to the public for assistance in locating a red 2014 Ford Fusion that was stolen from an elderly couple found shot to death in their home. The victims have been identified as Major Melvin, 89, and his wife, Claudette, 87.
The tragic incident, which occurred last Friday, has left the community in shock. The couple's daughter, Tonya Mitchell, shared that her parents were discovered slain in their home, with little information released by the police regarding the circumstances of the shooting.
According to Mitchell, the perpetrator is believed to have stolen the couple's car, which bears the Florida license plate LTDQ16. She revealed that her father was shot while sleeping on the living room couch, while her mother was apparently shot as she emerged from the bedroom in response to the intrusion.
Of particular concern is the fact that the couple's son, who has special needs, was present in the house during the incident. Fortunately, he was unharmed, although he has been unable to provide any useful information to the authorities.
Notably, only the car was reported missing from the scene, as other valuables such as the mother's purse and the couple's cellphones were left untouched. Mitchell expressed disbelief at the tragic turn of events, stating that her parents had no known enemies and were well-respected members of the community.
Describing the situation as resembling a scripted crime scene, Mitchell questioned the motive behind the brutal attack, emphasizing that her parents were kind individuals who had never harmed anyone. The police department, while actively investigating the case, has refrained from confirming specific details at this time.
