Egypt XI vs Ivory Coast: Predicted lineup, team news, injury and Covid latest for AFCON tie

Egypt are contending with two absentees ahead of Wednesday’s Africa Cup of Nations showdown with Ivory Coast.

A place in the quarter-finals is at stake in Douala as the seven-time champions look to go at least one better than their shock exit at this stage in Cairo three years ago.

Akram Tawfik and Ahmed Fatouh are out after departing the Pharaohs’ group opener with Nigeria due to injury.

Carlos Quieroz will once again hand Mohamed Salah the reins to the attack, most likely alongside Mostafa Mohamed and Omar Marmoush.

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny should be joined by Amr El Solia and Abdallah Said in the centre of the park. The duo have started each of the last two matches after Trezequet and Hamdi Fathi were dropped following the Nigeria loss.

Ahmed Hegazy will likely have Mohamed Abdelmonem with him in defence, after his winning goal against Sudan last time out.

Predicted Egypt XI: El Shenawy; Abdel Wahed, Hegazy, Abdelmonem, Ashraf; Elneny, Said, El Solia; Salah, Marmoush, Mohamed.
