Edinburgh weather: What time temperatures will plummet below freezing

Wednesday saw predominantly bright and sunny skies in Edinburgh but temperatures in the capital are set to plummet below freezing overnight.

Clouds will cover the city for much of Wednesday evening but these will clear around 6pm.

After this, skies will be clear for the remainder of the night and early morning.

The mercury will plummet from Wednesday evening onward, falling from around 5 degrees Celsius at 5pm to below freezing overnight.

Temperatures will eventually hit -2C on Thursday morning, holding steading from 6am to around 9am.

Following this, clouds will begin to form over the capital — though there will be sunny spells throughout the day.

Things will also heat up sightly around this time, rising to a peak of 4C by 2pm.

The chance of rainfall will also remain low across the entirety of Thursday, peaking at just 6%.

According to BBC Weather, it will be a "largely dry day in Edinburgh".
