Edinburgh St James Quarter gets new street food brand crowned Scotland's favourite

An Edinburgh New Town's food hall is welcoming its newest award-winning delicious addition after signing up a food business that crowned Scotland's favourite street food.

Kochchi street food - that catered at the filming of Batgirl and Good Omens - is now permanently moving to Bonnie & Wild's Scottish Marketplace in the capital's St James Quarter.

This comes after the adored Sri Lankan food business won the People's Choice Prize in last month's Scottish Street Food Awards.

Serving exceptional food from their converted horsebox, the business' founders Suki Jayaratne and Shehan Fernando took Kochchi to food and music festivals like TRNSMT, Craft Beer & Street Food and PlayGround Festival and were quickly recognised for the outstanding dishes they serve.

Suki said: "We were brought up around traditional home-cooking and Sri Lankan Street Food, and are passionate about sharing our amazing island dishes with other people. Kochchi has turned our dream into reality and for this we're very lucky!

"Now we're looking forward to a more permanent kitchen at Bonnie & Wild where we'll be sharing our iconic Sri Lankan Street Food dishes that are vibrant and packed with flavour! Our creative combinations are made with local produce and cater to vegans, veggies and meat lovers alike.

"You can expect dishes like our legendary Kotthu - the ultimate comfort food - our show-stopping Hoppers, and signature Deville dishes!"

Celebrating a year in operation this month, Bonnie & Wild have championed an extraordinary variety of cuisines at their venue, supporting some of the best chefs from across Scotland.

Now, the marketplace brings to the visitors the best of both worlds - high-class dishes from acknowledged and well-established chefs and the country's newly-discovered emerging cookery stars.

Ryan Barrie, Bonnie & Wild's Operations Director, said: "I'm delighted that Suki and Shehan are bringing their Kochchi Sri Lankan street food to Bonnie & Wild. I love the food, but I also love the energy and passion Suki and Shehan bring with it."

Kochchi is due to open at st James Quarter's Bonnie & Wild Marketplace on July 18.
