Edinburgh police launch search for missing man as concern for his welfare grows

Edinburgh Police are appealing to the public for information as they attempt to trace a missing 41-year-old man.

Michael Meehan was last seen in the Morningside area of the capital at around 12.55pm on August 17. Police are becoming concerned for his welfare as they put out the call to the public on social media on Wednesday afternoon.

Cops describe Michael as being six foot tall, of a slim build, with short and bushy eyebrows. He also has an Irish accent and was last seen wearing a black jacket, blue shorts and black trainers.

Michael has connections with the Tayside area and was spotted near Dundee airport on Sunday, August 21. Police believe that he may also be in the Perth area.

Police are urging anyone who has seen Michael since Wednesday, August 17, or who has any information on his whereabouts to contact Police Scotland and quote incident number 1641 of August 22.

The appeal was posted by Edinburgh police to their social media, saying: “We are appealing for the public’s help as part of our efforts to trace a 41-year-old man reported missing in Edinburgh.

“Michael Meehan was last seen in the Morningside area of Edinburgh around 12.55pm on 17/08/22 and there are concerns for his welfare. Michael is described as 6 foot tall, slim build with short and bushy eyebrows. He also has an Irish accent. He was wearing a black jacket, blue shorts and black trainers.

“Michael has connections to Tayside and was sighted near to Dundee Airport on 21/08/22. He may also be in the Perth Area.

"Anyone who may have seen Michael since this time, or who has any information on his whereabouts, is urged to contact Police Scotland via 101 quoting incident number 1641 of 22/08/22
