Edinburgh city centre hotel apologises to guest kept awake in room that 'shakes'

An Edinburgh City Centre hotel has apologised for a noisy road and bad vibrations after an English guest left a scathing two star review on TripAdvisor.

The guest stayed at the Sonder Royal Garden Apartments on Queen Street during a trip with her family, and she reported a host of issues in her review.

“The apartments are on a very, very busy Road, which will often keep you awake at night due to the noise,” the review began.

“The apartment actually shakes when a large vehicle drives past. They supply you with ear plugs, [which] says it all.”

Stale smells allegedly floated through the hallway, the cleaning standards were poor, the curtains did not close, and the tea bags had “no flavour.” The safe was also broken.

The guest also posted a photo of her finger covered with dust after supposedly wiping it across the linens on the bed.

The guest conceded that the apartments were in a good location and were very spacious, but didn’t think the rooms were worth the price she paid for four nights.

“Considering the cost of the apartment it wasn’t great value, and when raising the issues with them upon arrival they chose to try and fix some of the items but ignored the noise levels and the vibration,” she said.

The general manager at Sonder Royal Garden Apartments responded to the review to apologise for the issues.

“We're glad you enjoyed the location and spaciousness of your Sonder, but we're sorry for the noise issues you encountered,” the manager said.

“We're grateful for your feedback and we will work to resolve the other problems you've mentioned. We hope you still enjoyed your time in Edinburgh and that you'll consider giving us another chance.”

The hotel has an average 4.5 star TripAdvisor rating, and it was listed as 19th out of 166 Edinburgh hotels on the website.
