Since taking office as president of the United States for a second term this year, Donald Trump has been up to no good. For several months, he has been running a hate campaign against the country’s immigrant population, alongside engaging in a trade war with China and other nations.
Recently, Trump seems to be experiencing the consequences of his actions, as even his MAGA supporters are hesitating to back him. To regain their support, he is softening his stance on immigrants and adjusting his tariff policies.
After months of attacking immigrants, labelling undocumented individuals as ‘illegal aliens,’ and cracking down on them with the assistance of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Trump has now acknowledged on camera that American citizens lack certain skills that people from other countries possess. This has led him to believe it is necessary to allow foreign workers into the U.S. During an interview, he also emphasised the importance of Chinese students coming to America for education, as they make up a significant portion of the student body in American schools, colleges, and universities. Without them, he claims, these institutions could face financial difficulties or even closure.
As previously mentioned, Trump is also easing his stance on tariff policies, having recently lowered the tariff rates on various goods, providing some relief to Americans affected by them. According to CNBC, Trump announced on Friday that he reduced tariffs on items like coffee, black tea, green tea, cocoa, bananas, certain beef products, tomatoes, avocados, coconuts, oranges, and pineapples, amid rising discontent from his voter base regarding his policies. This news sparked discussions online, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where users were surprised by Trump’s actions. One user remarked:
“ Trump is such an economic idiot he does not realise reducing his tariffs will NOT now reduce prices to their pre-tariff level. The horse has bolted…”
Another individual said:
“So, he’s confirming that the US under his “leadership” has turned into a banana republic. The USA, once the great fighter of democracy world wide! It seems that the American tariff experiment finally hit its expiration date.
