ECHO readers have voted for their favourite British dish.
And the winner is… a classic Sunday roast! In second place was a full English Breakfast followed by fish and chips in third spot.
On Merseyside's favourite dish one voter said: “I am now 67 and from when I was a child my mother's Sunday roast was amazing with her own gravy and I carried on to do the same with my family. No one can make gravy like what I do.

“The proper way [is to make it] from scratch [and] not with... containers of false gravy.” Another respondent said: "It has all the delicious things to eat that I could imagine from a good joint to roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings included and lovely gravy to name but a few ingredients.”
Foods which were also popular included steak & kidney pie and shepherd's pie. Spotted dick was the least favourite food and received the fewest votes.
Merseyside’s favourite British meal was at odds with the country at large, according to polling. YouGov found most Britons would rather tuck into fish and chips than a Sunday roast.
According to Kantar, a media company, Britons enjoyed 51.4m roast dinners last year. However, the group found that people are starting to eat the quintessential meal during the week rather than at the weekend.
