As much as you may try to keep things spick and span, baby mats are one of those items that will inevitably get quite grubby after a few uses, as many new parents know. Fortunately, homecare guru and author Lynsey Crombie, best known to fans as Lynsey Queen of Clean, has shared some top tips to get your well-worn mat shining once more.
Lynsey recently attended a cleaning festival in Leeds, dubbed the Wilko House of Hacks, where she fielded queries from fans eager to hear her expertise. At the event, which was attended by the Mirror, Lynsey took questions from a number of parents keen to keep on top of their homes while caring for their little ones.
One house proud mum wanted to know how to get her toddler's mat, which she says has ended up a 'horrible colour', gleaming again. Such items will naturally end up covered in a few spills and splashes no matter how careful you may be, and luckily Lynsey knew just what to do.
Lynsey recommended: "Nail polish remover or hydrogen peroxide. Tiny bit of nail polish remover and obviously rinse it before putting baby back on it!"
During the same Q&A session, Lynsey heard from one lady who found herself grappling with frustrating permanent marker scribbles on her gloss banister.
Lynsey advised: "Have you tried toothpaste on that one? Try that one, and if that doesn't work, try nail polish remover as well. Try both of those, and if they don't work, message me and I'll help you.
"But remember, with the toothpaste, try and leave it overnight. So don't just put it on and expect a miracle within ten minutes. For permanent marker, I'd leave it on as long as you can. Really rub it in as well and then have a look in the morning."
