Earliest ever harvest for English wine maker after record hot weather

A view of bunches of Chardonnay grapes ahead of being harvested at Nyetimber’s vineyard in Amberley, West Sussex. Nyetimber begins its earliest ever harvest on Monday, 5 days earlier than the previous earliest start date of 19th September in 2018. Around 400kg of grapes will be hand picked each day, potentially resulting in over 1.5 million bottles of sparkling wine being produced from the 2026 vintage. An English wine producer has begun its earliest harvest ever after record-breaking heat this summer.

A small number of grapes can be picked from September 14 at Nyetimber vineyards as some vines have already matured, believed to be mainly because of this year’s hot weather.
