Dylan Reid explains Celtic snub as he opens up on talks with Ange Postecoglou while at St Mirren

Dylan Reid has opened up on his talks with Ange Postecoglou and the main factor behind deciding against a move to Celtic.

The former St Mirren kid has now joined English Premier League outfit Crystal Palace as he makes a life-changing move south of the border. He will initially play with the Under-18s as he adjusts to his new surroundings before stepping up to the Under-21's next summer. He will be going out all to impress new boss Patrick Vieira but things could have worked out much differently for the youngster.

The Buddies had accepted an offer from Celtic but he turned down the move while he also had trails with Portuguese outfit Benfica and German giants Bayern Munich. The talk over a potential move to Parkhead rumbled on for months but in the end after talking to the Scottish champions he felt that playing in the 'B' side in the Lowland League wasn't the best step for his career at that stage.

Speaking to the Scottish Sun, Reid said: “I spoke to Ange Postecoglou. We had a good chat and he explained what it would be like if I went to Celtic. He said it wouldn’t be easy and I would need to work hard.

“I knew that would be the case so that didn’t worry me. That’s what I want, to work hard and progress.

“At Celtic I’d have been in their B-team, playing in the Lowland League and I didn’t feel that would suit me.

“Working with someone like Ange was definitely a big pull. It seems every player he’s worked with is on the rise. I’ve also heard great things about how good a coach he is.

“I’m sure had I gone to Celtic I’d have taken my game to another level. I didn’t think playing in the Lowland League was the best thing for me now.”
