Dune 3 character posters reveal the first look at Robert Pattinson's shapeshifting villain, a strange new look for Florence Pugh's Irulan, and official confirmation that Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho is back from the dead

Dune 2 review.

Nine new character posters have been unveiled for Dune 3 ahead of the highly anticipated trailer launch later today – and there are some interesting surprises amongst the familiar faces.

As well as portraits of Timothée Chalamet's Paul Atreides (who's looking far more intimidating than he did when we last saw him in Dune 2), Zendaya's Chani, Rebecca Ferguson's Lady Jessica, and Javier Bardem's Stilgar, there's also Anya Taylor-Joy's Alia, bloodied and screaming and a blurry look at Robert Pattinson's mysterious shapeshifting villain Scytale. Check them out below.

Elsewhere, we get a glimpse of new cast member Isaach de Bankolé, who's playing Fremen warrior Farok, and Jason Momoa's Duncan Idaho has his own poster, which is the first official confirmation that he's back from the dead (although, for those who haven't read Frank Herbert's books, Momoa let the cat out of the bag nearly a year ago).

The other big surprise from this batch of posters is Florence Pugh's Irulan, who's sporting a peculiar new look. Her face is seemingly completely covered in dry, hardened clay, and she looks pretty spooked. That's one skincare routine that may have gone too far…

"On this third one, all the great shit you see on screen is from freedom of movement and freedom of choice," Chalamet recently said of the threequel. "And with Denis [Villeneuve, director], we really had a good rhythm. It’s the eeriest one. It’s a big swing."

Dune 3 will arrive in theaters on December 18. In the meantime, check out our guide to the rest of this year's biggest upcoming movies.
