Dundee United successful in appeal of Tony Watt red card vs Motherwell

DUNDEE UNITED have won their appeal against Tony Watt's red card against Motherwell.

The striker was sent off following a VAR review by referee John Beaton for a challenge on Sean Goss.

The ex-Celtic attacker appeared to catch the 'Well midfielder high on the leg with his boot as he attempted to win the ball in the middle of the park.

The on-field decision was to play on. However, VAR assessed the incident and advised that Beaton reviewed his original call. This saw a red card come out for Watt.

Motherwell went on to win the game 1-0 at Tanandice.

It was quickly revealed that United would appeal the call. It has now been confirmed that their appeal was successful.

The club announced: "We can confirm that Tony Watt will be available for Saturday's trip to Celtic Park following a successful appeal of his red card against Motherwell.

"Following a fast-track Scottish FA hearing, the sending off Tony received has been rescinded and replaced with a caution.

"Tony was dismissed after a VAR review of his 40th minute challenge with Sean Goss.

"At the time, it was interpreted that Tony has been guilty of Serious Foul Play but this has been downgraded to a caution under the offence ‘Reckless tackles or challenges an opponent'."
