The final round of games in this Dumfries Hockey Club's summer league were played on Wednesday, June 14 – and it went down to the wire.
Dumfries Blues played Dumfries Black in the first game and after a hugely competitive game it ended 0-0 with both teams having multiple chances to score.
This result left the Blue and White teams level on points, with White having a +7 goal difference buffer.
The second game, Dumfries Red v Dumfries White, remained 0-0 at half time but White took the lead early in the third quarter with a goal from debutant Williams-Woods. The red team, however, equalised soon after through Johnston. Entering the final quarter, White thought they had the title sewn up until S McFarlane put Red 2-1 up.
In a strange move, White pulled their keeper off looking for the win and gave away a penalty stroke. Paterson donned the helmet and stick and saved the shot low to his right. Red scored a third, late on, through Pritchard and the game ended 3-1 with the White team taking the award on goal difference.
After the final whistle, White were presented with the summer league trophy, the Beth Anderson-Cook Award.
There were also presentations of chocolates to the most “positive player” in each team – Paula, Emma, Emily and Monaca.
