Andronica Klaas

In the relentless pursuit of weaving artificial intelligence into every facet of modern life, from the social media feeds that shape our worldview to the financial systems that underpin our economies, the stakes have never been higher. One overlooked flaw can ripple into bias, exclusion, or mistrust, undermining the very progress technology promises to deliver.

Yet, amid this global race for speed and scale, a quiet countercurrent is gaining force, led by engineers and innovators who believe that true advancement lies not just in what we can build, but in how we make it. Among them stands Andronica Klaas, a highly regarded Quality Assurance Engineer, a voice of conscience in an industry often defined by disruption.

In July 2020, Andronica was thrust to the forefront of the AI advance, which has been proceeding at an unprecedented scale. Her work is defined by continuous global engagement, immense data generation, and technological progress outpacing regulation. Where others perceived fragmentation.

Andronica brings a unique set of skills that bridge code's raw power with ethical imperatives, scaling safeguards that sustain innovation. And her work has included identifying the building blocks of a governance system capable of sustaining innovation while enforcing accountability.

“Technology’s worth isn’t measured by how advanced it is, but by how wisely and responsibly we shape it to uplift people, ensuring safety, inclusion, and sustainability at every step,” she says.

Beyond policy and process, Andronica’s work reflects a deep respect for the human element in technology. As an accessibility lead, she champions inclusive product design, ensuring that individuals of all abilities can engage meaningfully with products such as consumer messaging platforms, social engagement tools, and safety-focused user experiences.

“I find purpose in building products that remind people how alike we are, regardless of race, origin, or country, bridging differences through shared digital experiences.” Andronica shares. For her, innovation and compliance go hand in hand, shaping technology that is not only intelligent but also ethical, inclusive, and humane.

From Humble Sparks to Global Code: The Making of an AI Guardian

Andronica’s path to AI oversight began in South Africa, where economic grit was a matter of survival, and resourcefulness was a necessity. As a child, she watched her self-taught engineer sister dissect a broken hot plate stove, rewiring it with a kitchen knife to heat up for dinner: "It was magic to me. Whatever that is, I want in on that." Andronica recalls.

This epiphany, blending logic and creativity, steered her to Johnson C. Smith University, where she graduated in 2017 with a BS in Computer Science and Information Systems. There, she mastered Python, Java, SQL, and HP UFT for test automation, skills that would anchor her in QA's analytical trenches.

Her early activism shone through in the 2017 Google IgniteCS Project, where she secured a $10,000 grant to lead a three-week coding camp for Title I high school students in Charlotte, NC. Teaching HTML for website creation, she empowered underserved youth: "Tech should lift everyone, not leave half the table empty," she says, a principle now central to her AI inclusivity efforts.

Dr. Dominique L. Hilliard, who worked closely with Andronica in the QA organization, shares that working alongside her has been a masterclass in operational excellence. She brings structure, foresight, and empathy to every project: “Her work goes beyond problem-solving. She creates solutions that expand with the business and redefine how quality and compliance are handled,” he shares.

Today, Andronica operates in the highly specialized field of privacy, regulation, and compliance—a space that demands both legal precision and engineering insight. She has been instrumental in developing privacy frameworks that aim to strengthen user trust, particularly amid evolving global data protection standards.

She has led the development of an FTC-aligned privacy safeguard framework, embedded accessibility QA standards into product lifecycles, and strengthened regulatory readiness through effective cross-functional collaboration. Her leadership ensures that AI-integrated systems remain transparent, accountable, and equitable, setting new benchmarks for sustainable quality engineering across the industry.

As a QA Engineering leader, she has established herself as a trusted voice in technology, becoming a featured speaker at the 2022 Black Student Summit, where she shared insights on careers in tech, quality engineering, and responsible innovation. This expertise was reflected by her award for Rising Star of the Year: Product & Engineering at the WomenTech Global Awards in 2022. It’s clear that people definitely take notice of the niche she’s carving out as an expert in tech.

Andronica is equally vocal about the dual nature of artificial intelligence, its transformative potential and its ethical perils: “I’ve always been fascinated by the dual nature of artificial intelligence, its power to transform lives, and its potential to harm if not guided responsibly. That balance is what drives my work,” she shares.

As a frequent judge and moderator at international hackathons, she evaluates emerging AI startups focused on cybersecurity, accessibility, and digital inclusion.

She recalls one particularly memorable competition where a participant had developed an AI tool to detect cyber threats in the dark web: “It was brilliant, but it reminded me that the same technology could be weaponized in the wrong hands. That’s the tension we live with in tech, the balance between innovation and accountability.” Andronica shares.

This awareness drives her advocacy for ethical AI systems built with transparency, fairness, and long-term sustainability in mind. It also informs her mission to bridge the digital divide between resource-rich and emerging regions. Having grown up in South Africa and now working globally, Andronica envisions a world where access to technology and knowledge is universal.

Taming Financial Beasts: Precision in the Bank of America Forge

Andronica cut her teeth at Bank of America, navigating the high-wire act of global finance. As a 2016 Summer Analyst, she automated report requests via SharePoint for the PMO, streamlining governance for financial crimes reporting. By 2017, as a Quality Assurance Analyst, she built regression suites for QzFunding, a money market tool, slashing validation cycles and bolstering control adherence.

Her rise continued in 2018, when she became Lead SIT QA Engineer, overseeing testing for Balance Sheet and Capital Markets Technology systems that underpin the bank’s global liquidity and compliance operations.

Coordinating User Acceptance Testing (UAT) handovers, she ensured smooth releases that met stringent audit requirements. From 2017 to 2019, as Lead QA Engineer (SIT/CIT/UAT), Andronica led two Global Financial Technology teams, scaling automation frameworks to minimize risk and embedding Agile best practices across development cycles.

“Those years proved to me that engineering excellence and rigorous oversight aren’t opposites; they’re strongest when they work together,” she says.

Her work became a benchmark for how collaborative engineering could coexist with rigorous oversight.

By 2019, she had transitioned into Product Program Manager, steering the end-to-end lifecycle of agile products within Document and Record Services, a space where data integrity meets legal obligation.

Negotiating scope among design, operations, and compliance teams, she delivered regulatory-driven change under SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) scrutiny without stifling innovation: “It’s about alignment. Innovation meets accountability when everyone owns the outcome.” Andronica shares.

These years at Bank of America were more than a technical apprenticeship; they were a masterclass in risk mitigation, system integrity, and ethical precision: “That experience shaped how I think about responsibility in technology. Today, as I navigate the uncharted territory of AI’s moral and operational challenges, I draw on the same discipline that once safeguarded billions.” Andronica says.

Safeguarding AI at Hyper-Scale

Andronica has helped fortify AI-integrated ecosystems serving billions. She led the development of an FTC-aligned privacy safeguard framework deployed across more than 70 products, defining strategy, training quality teams, and automating execution at scale. As the primary Assessor-facing lead, she has managed audits and designed quality assurance approaches for cross-jurisdictional transparency notifications, ensuring AI-integrated systems adapt appropriately across cultural and regulatory contexts.

With deep experience in SOX compliance—ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and audit readiness of technology systems—Andronica leads quality strategies that strengthen governance while enabling innovation. She also drives accessibility quality practices, prioritizing inclusive experiences by identifying and resolving issues affecting users across different disability cohorts in voice- and image-based AI systems.

Her privacy frameworks organize and operationalize commitments across products, translating regulatory expectations into clear, actionable quality standards that leadership teams rely on for visibility and alignment. In parallel, she has built and scaled both onshore and offshore quality teams, optimizing delivery through strong cross-functional and partner collaborations: "AI's promise is huge, but without quality baked in, it's a house of cards," she warns.

A champion of Accessibility and SOX QA, Andronica is recognized for her ability to embed inclusivity into complex systems, triaging accessibility issues in AI-driven voice and image technologies with precision and care.

Her initiatives have strengthened trust among both regulators and end-users by translating complex safeguards into clear, actionable frameworks. Through unified reporting and strategic communication, she demonstrates a rare ability to convey regulatory, privacy, and quality requirements with clarity and confidence, bridging the gap between technical teams, compliance stakeholders, and broader audiences.

Equally strategic and empathetic, Andronica has built and led on-site and offshore quality teams, fostering a strong culture of accountability through close collaboration with legal, product, and compliance partners. Together, they developed a dynamic framework to classify and prioritize privacy commitments, enabling organizations to scale the implementation of Privacy And compliance practices/enhancements/features across multiple products - inclusive of AI-integrated products/services responsibly while maintaining safety, transparency, and trust.

“Quality isn’t just a step in testing, it’s the very foundation of trust,” says Andronica. Every safeguard she designs is both a technical barrier and an ethical bridge, ensuring AI systems grow not only more intelligent but also more humane.

Judging Tomorrow: Mentorship in AI's Wild Frontier

Andronica also judges AI hackathons such as Cursor Kenya and Silicon Valley Demo Day, scouting for ethical demos in computer vision and MLOps. At OSS4AI conferences, she mentors on production pipelines: "Born in Africa, I see brilliant ideas that could scale 10x with access," she says, which she believes bridges the divides of the Global South and opens pathways into the global AI economy.

“Andronica leads with intention and heart. She invests deeply in others, creating opportunities for students, early-career professionals, and women in STEM to thrive. Her impact isn’t measured just in systems improved, but in lives changed,” Dr. Hilliard reveals.

“What sets Andronica apart is her conviction that ethical AI isn’t optional, it’s foundational. Whether she’s mentoring AI founders or building frameworks for privacy and compliance, she consistently bridges innovation with accountability. That’s where her genius lies.” Dr. Hilliard shares.

Through Andronica’s mentorship of young engineers and her leadership in global discussions on AI ethics, she continues to influence how the next generation of technologists thinks about integrity, governance, and innovation.

Her vision extends far beyond corporate corridors. She hopes to inspire others, especially young women in developing countries to see technology as both a career and a catalyst for change: “I started dreaming with an old box computer. Now I work with some of the brightest minds in the world. If my story inspires even one person to believe they can do the same, that’s the real success.” she proudly shares.

A Vision Coded in Conscience

In a landscape where speed often overshadows sustainability, Andronica stands out for her clarity of purpose: to drive technology that uplifts rather than exploits, that empowers rather than divides.

Through her contributions to global conversations on privacy, accessibility, and AI ethics, she is redefining what it means to innovate responsibly, proving that the future of technology is not just about what we can build, but how we build it.

However, Andronica’s ambitions extend beyond corporate boundaries. With a keen understanding of the complex intersection of technology and policy, she envisions a future in which ethical frameworks evolve in tandem with innovation, ensuring that AI’s growth benefits society equitably. Her next frontier is shaping those conversations at the policy level, advocating for responsible governance that keeps humanity at the heart of code.

“We’re not just creating products; we’re crafting the future of how people live, connect, and belong. Every line of code carries a decision about access, fairness, and impact. Quality is the blueprint for inclusive progress.” Andronica says.

Her vision reframes the role of technologists as stewards of trust, architects of systems that prioritize transparency, accountability, and compassion. Andronica sees technology at its best when ethics is at its core.

As the world navigates the dawn of artificial intelligence, Andronica reminds us that progress without principle is a hollow victory. Her work is a testament to a new kind of leadership in tech, one grounded not just in innovation, but in integrity: “Innovation means nothing if it leaves people behind. The real work is building technology that earns trust,” she says.

In every product she helps build and every policy she shapes, Andronica codes a simple yet profound truth: the most advanced technology is one that remembers its humanity.
