After losing linebacker Jaelan Phillips to a season-ending torn Achilles in their Black Friday game against the New York Jets, the Miami Dolphins are looking to find ways to replace his production.
On Monday, ESPN’s Field Yates reported that the Dolphins put in a waiver claim on former Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Derek Barnett. Unfortunately, the Houston Texans, who had a higher waiver priority, claimed him as well.
In addition to the Texans, the Dolphins also put in a claim to acquire Derek Barnett, per source.
Houston had higher waiver priority than Miami, who would have reunited Barnett with Vic Fangio and added some depth after the team lost Jaelan Phillips to an Achilles injury. https://t.co/UNsoRAZGGH

Miami has some internal options with Emmanuel Ogbah, Andrew Van Ginkel, Cameron Goode and Quinton Bell on the 53-man roster and practice squad. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see them continue looking outside the building to find help.
