Does Instagram show who viewed your profile?

Since it was launched in 2010, Instagram has become the world’s most popular photo and video sharing app, up there with Facebook, YouTube and TikTok as one of the most widely used social networks. Many users flock to Instagram every day to see what their favourite celebs have been up to, or what their friends did on their last night out.

Now owned by Facebook’s parent company Meta, Instagram boasts almost 1.5bn users worldwide each month, according to market and consumer data company Statista. It has become the perfect way to show off your recent endeavors to friends and family, whether that means sharing snaps from last night’s concert, or simply showing off your latest luxurious meal.

But maybe you want to know if a particular user has viewed your profile. Here, we explain if Instagram shows users who has viewed their profile.

As it stands, there is no way for an Instagram user with a regular, personal account to see who has viewed their profile. You can see the names of users who have liked or made comments on a post, but if these users are viewing your profile without interacting, unfortunately there is not yet a way to see this.

There are some third-party apps that claim to allow you to view this information, but they can be unreliable and unproven to actually work. Though it is likely that Instagram has a record of which users are viewing other profiles, currently the app has no feature to allow users to access this information.

Instagram does allow a similar function for those with a professional account, but even then, it will only show how many people have viewed your profile, rather than the names of the individual users. With a professional account, you will have access to certain information through Instagram Insights, which allows you to see certain data related to your profile not accessible for personal accounts, as it is intended for businesses who can use the data as part of their marketing strategy.

One such feature is Impressions, which counts how many times a particular post has been viewed. You can also see how many times your profile has been viewed by other users, as well as other metrics including the times at which your profile was viewed, and the demographics of the users viewing your profile.

Unfortunately, the one thing Instagram will not show you is the names of these users, so unless a user interacts with you by liking or commenting on a post, you will not know exactly who has been on your profile. If you really want to know who has viewed your content, the only sure-fire way to this is by posting to your Instagram Stories, as this can give you a list of every account which has viewed your Stories post.

Luckily, it is very quick and easy to do this. Once you have posted a photo or video to your Instagram Stories, simply tap on the Story icon – represented by your profile photo near the top of the screen – and then swipe up.

You will then see a complete list of every Instagram account which has opened and viewed your Stories post. Instagram is constantly being updated to provide users with new features and functions, so perhaps one day users will be able to see who has accessed their content, but as it stands, switching to a professional account or using Instagram Stories are the only way to do this.
