Good Morning Britain resident GP Dr Amir Khan says 'all our lives are at risk' this week as the UK could see a Level Four heat warning put in place by the Met Office and the UK Health and Security Agency. Level Two and Three alerts are already in place, stretching through the weekend into next week, and could be escalated if the temperature smashes the UK record and heads over 40C.
Speaking on ITV this morning, Dr Khan said a Level Four warning was only something he had ever seen in textbooks at medical school, and never thought he would see in the real world. Talking about the warnings he said: "What that means is there is prolonged and severe heat exposure for everyone, not just the at-risk groups here we are talking fit and healthy people are at risk of things like heat stress, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
"And that does put pressure on the emergency services. I've only ever read about a Level Four heatwave warning when I was at medical school, I never thought I'd see it, and we're seeing that in our lifetime.
