Tottenham Hotspur have been instructed by a former player to agree a deal for a wing-back in January, which would leave Djed Spence’s future up in the air.
The 22-year-old starred for Steve Cooper's side last season making 42 appearances for the Reds as they earned promotion to the Premier League. His performances for Forest saw the Middlesbrough loanee attract interest from top-flight clubs with the full-back eventually being sold to Spurs for a reported £20million in the summer.
However, Spence has struggled to establish himself as part of Antonio Conte’s side, featuring four times for a total of just 28 minutes this term as he competes with Matt Doherty and Emerson Royal for a starting berth. Spurs have now been linked with a further £26million move for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries in January and former defender Pascal Chimbonda has wondered where this would leave Spence’s prospects at the club.

“I think Dumfries would be a good addition to the squad,” Chimbonda told Lord Ping. “If he were to join the club that would give us four right backs, which is far too many.
“Tottenham will need to sell a player or two before he joins and I also think they need to think about Spence’s future too. He will not be happy to see another player come into the team.
“I really like Dumfries as a player. I like what he offers going forward and I think he would be an improvement on Royal and Doherty."
Spence came off the bench for Spurs against Forest last week as Cooper masterminded a 2-0 win to progress in the Carabao Cup. The full-back was hugely popular during his spell at the club and the sub-plot surrounding the defender became a topic of conversation on the Garibaldi Red podcast, where host Matt Davies and guests Michael Temple and Mikey Clarke all agreed that plotting a move for Spence in January would make sense for Forest.
