If you know you're making your last patch for a game, you might as well make it a big one. Bungie's teased a little bit of what's coming in Destiny 2's last major update, and honestly, I've read shorter novellas.
The official Destiny 2 Twitter gives us a peek behind the cosmic curtain. "71 pages of patch notes. 17k words - and we're still hunting down stragglers," reads the tweet.
"This is a big patch," the team adds. "Our teams have worked tirelessly to hit the highest priority/impacting bugs before launch, but there may be a few rough edges."

There are big patches, and then there are ones that'd take you a solid weekend to read through fully. For comparison, these notes are now longer than Stephen King's short stories The Monkey, 1408, and Children of the Corn. They're over twice as long as the average American comic book.
They're just shy of the famously long and in-depth manual for the original StarCraft. But when it's the last hurrah for a hugely popular and era-defining game, it's only right.

That launch day is right around the corner, on June 9. There's been a lot of commiserating following the announcement of Destiny 2 being sunsetted. Including from voice actors, who've gotten behind growing calls for Destiny 3.
Current reports point toward dark days at Bungie once this horizon passes, with layoffs expected as the studio enters a new era under Sony's ownership. The company released Marathon a couple of months ago, but according to analysts, the response so far hasn't been the strongest.
We'll see what arrives in the coming weeks and months. At least we know Monument of Triumph will give us plenty to pore over in the meantime.
