Delhi LG says air pollution situation extremely worrisome, calls meeting with CM Arvind Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, V K Saxena, expressed deep concern about the city's alarming air pollution situation and has called for a meeting with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Environment Minister Gopal Rai at Raj Niwas.

Through a series of posts on social media, Saxena urged the public to stay indoors and avoid exposing themselves, especially children and the elderly, to the hazardous environmental conditions.

To address the worsening pollution, the LG has canceled his public engagements at Yogmaya Mandir and the Urs of Khwaja Nizamuddin Auliya.

Saxena's social media posts emphasized the severity of the situation, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reportedly exceeding 800 in some areas. The "severe plus" category of air quality was reached on Friday morning, triggering the implementation of emergency measures, including a ban on polluting trucks, commercial four-wheelers, and all forms of construction activities in the National Capital Region.
